No problem after the prostatectomy, so I made up for it after the heart surgery this February. In my case, I knew it was going to happen as I literally eat more fiber than 99.9% of the US population, which my bowel is used to expelling. In the hospital I probably didn’t get as much fiber in the 5 days as I do in one day at home. But I have to believe those who have a higher fiber diet than average would be prone to constipation when the fiber is dramatically reduced. Len Smith ProstateCancer.net Moderator

Hey gang ,just like to thank Brian Green for his response to my question on constipation. Two weeks after surgery I started having severe constipation was on two stool softners a day and it wasn’t working. So called doctor I increased to 3 a day ,30grams of fiber by eating whole grain bread and cereal ,sweet potato, and pears and blueberries, and 5 ounces of prune juice .And so far it’s working thank God for his blessings. Just wanted to share in case some of you guys run into this .Have a gr8t day God bless.

Hi @Deemusicman. Do you mean the first two weeks after you had a biopsy? After surgery, or hormone therapy or radiation therapy? Any of these could lead to constipation (or diarrhea). This article talks a little about this, but I’m sure some other community members may weigh in with their experience as well. https://prostatecancer.net/symptoms/bowel/
