Has anyone experienced pain when getting an erection after radical prostatectomy?

I had my prostate removed in May 2018. about 2 months later I noticed that when I started to get a partial erection, I am experiencing pain at the base of my penis. This is not in the urethra, it is in my organ itself. I asked my surgeon and he felt around a little but had no answer and also talked to the nurse practitioner about it. Neither seem to have an answer. I am wondering if it is because of the nerve damage.

  1. I'm not a doctor, but yes, I have pain in the penis when anything close to an erection occurs. Meeting with my doc next week -

    1. Hi , if you've got any info to share from the doc, or anything you'd like to add about your own situation, feel free to do so. Thanks for commenting.

    2. I see my doctor again in January and will bring it up again. I'll let everyone know if I get some answers.

  2. Hi , this is one we've heard about, but rarely seems to have a concrete answer. This article talks about painful orgasm, which could be of interest: https://prostatecancer.net/living/painful-orgasm. This story describes pain that the author thought could be nerve related too: https://prostatecancer.net/stories/unexplained-pain. Thanks for reaching out, and I hope you'll let us know how things go for you. - Nina, ProstateCancer.net Team

    1. Thank you!

  4. Only pain I have had is from using cavajet injections which make it feel like it’s going to explode and can last up to 3.5 hours! Having to up the dose to 30mg to have sufficient effect was making it worse. At 3 1/2 years post surgery I tried viagra to see if this would help and allow me to reduce my dose of cavajet. Low and behold 50 mg of viagra worked on its own, it shouldn’t as I had non nerve sparing surgery but it does and having got round one of the biggest issues of surgery I am not complaining. Everyone has a very individual journey with their prostate cancer but I never gave up hope.
