My cancer is localized, stage 2. Will I need radiation after prostatectomy?

Awaiting MRI and then surgery.

  1. Generally you’ll only need radiation if your doctor suspects residual microscopic disease in the prostate bed after surgery or a recurrence. Since I was dx’d stage 4, I don’t have firsthand knowledge of this. Here are a couple links that may help.

Johns Hopkins - Two studies help you decide when to pursue radiation after surgery: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/brady-urology-institute/specialties/conditions-and-treatments/prostate-cancer/prostate-cancer-questions/two-studies-help-you-decide-when-to-pursue-radiation-after-surgery

    1. I was advised to do radiation 6 years after surgery as i was experiencing a slow but steady rise. At the time of surgery it was determined that the cancer was contained and had not spread - I did the treatment in 2018 and so far my PSA is 0.02 -
