Anyone had MRI guided radiation therapy?

I searched the forum for the common acronyms MRgRT, MR-RT, and MR-Linac but nothing came up. Perhaps I did something wrong.
I ask because I'm undergoing this type of radation in northern Italy. The therapy is only 5 sessions. I spend around 30 minutes in the MR-Linac. Today was my second round of radiation. So far, so good. I'm not feeling any different. No strange side effects. At least not yet. I'm expecting that to change. The sessions are spaced every other day to reduce the toxicity. I'd like to know if anyone else has had this type of RT and what was your experience.

About me: I'm 57 yrs old, in good physical shape and I've always been active. My PSA just before starting the treatment was 6.69 and my Gleason score is 4+3=7. Two tumors, one on each side. All localized. My local urologist was adament that I have surgery. I told him I wanted RT and he tried to scare me out of idea. He was giving me outdated information based on the use of RT 15 yrs ago. I did my own research and decided I wanted MRI guided RT. Thankfully national health system in Italy is quite good. I found a cancer clinic 3.5 hrs north of where I live with a MR-Linac machine. They were the first in southern Europe to have this type of machine. I arrived here on Monday, 5th of July and will stay in the area until th 15th.

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to the MR-Linac procedure for prostate cancer, but I do know that it was approved by U.S. FDA in 2018 and now is available in a number of locations. This very recent article examines MR-guided radiotherapy for prostate cancer: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8978250/. It looks at the latest, including the MR-Linac, as well as future possibilities. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)
