Artificial urinary sphincter

Has anyone had this procedure? After Prostatectomy my leakage has been slowly getting worse. This has been recommended... Some questions... Does anyone have statistics of how well this works over time? ... Is there anyone that has had this and can say how they feel about it now? ... Is it true I would have to give up my main form of exercise biking? Thanks you.

  1. I am familiar with a cyclist who had the procedure done. He went from a regular bike to a recumbent. Apparently the lower positioning takes pressure off the area. He continues to bike 2 years later. You may want to do some research on an electric bike or an electric assist . Also consider trying different seat styles to see if anything is helpful in avoiding putting pressure on your "equipment". Obviously you will want to consult your surgeon. 1. I didn't think of that. Thank you so much! 😀

      1. , my husband did it a half a year ago. Before he was 100% incontinent. Now, with the artificial Sphincter he needs only one thin pad just in case, actually, for dripps while closing. If your penis size is still more then an inch, it will be easier to adjust. Otherwise you need to look for your penis standing in the toilet. From the beginning it is easier to do it sitting on a toilet, later you get used to it and comfortable ( as much as this inconvenience can be comfortable). After about a month he had a burning and painful sensation everytime he urinates. After antibiotics it's almost gone. But now the tricky part: my hysband needs a bathroom every hour. Every hour. You have to plan properly and in advance know where the nearest restroom is. About the bikes I will not be the right person to ask 😀
        Wishing you a good luck!

        1. Thank you so much for your reply I really appreciate it. Since the original operation, I have had to go to the toilet some nights every 2 hours at best. usually every hour, at worst some nights every 20 minutes. Only at night though. I must say that even hearing about someone else going through difficulties, helps. Thanks for sharing.
