Radiation 3 years after radical prostatectomy with 1 nerve spared

Hello I had a radical prostatectomy 3 years ago with 1 nerve spared and I have had a good sex life since. Now I have biochemical recurrence and starting radiation to the prostate bed.I declined hormone treatment.I'm on my third of 40 treatments and am curious if anyone has a similar case and how you did. Thanks.

  1. I faced a similar situation. I was originally treated for a Gleason 9 in 2013. My cancer returned 5 years later and I opted for 40 treatments of EBRT. I did agree to hormone therapy as studies suggested it might help. My cancer returned for a 3rd time in 2023 and was treated with stereotactic radiation. So far all is good.

So much of this is based on how PCa impacts us as individuals. In the end, we are all different. The best approach is to be comfortable with the decision you made based on what you and your MD currently know. After that, it's time to take a deep breath and move forward. Stay on top of it with regular check-ups and if you see a PSA rise ask about a PMSA PET scan to locate any new issues that possibly could be treated.

    1. Hey Dennis Thank you for that info. Hope you got it this time. How is you ed? If any.

      1. I had the surgery with unilateral nerve spare 4 months ago. ED is still an issue but but I can manage to get half way there with “effort”. You stated “good sex life” so I am wondering how long it took you to recover erections? Since it is possible, but I hope not, that I follow in your footsteps, I wonder about the impact of radiation on sexual functionality now and later so I hope you can continue to post progress and what you are going through.
