radiation recovery

I had a radical prostatectomy in 2022 and just finished 38 rounds of radiation due to increasing PSA levels just around the 2 year mark. The analysis after the surgery indicated some in the 'margin' and that is where they believe it came back. I am still on the hormone shot eligard for two more months. I'm trying to get a sense for the recovery time from the radiation, I realize it will be different for each person but just looking to get a general sense.

  1. I am not certain what you mean by recovery time from the radiation. If this is about extra fatigue from radiation, that typically goes away after a few days.
If you mean the PSA bounce upward that can follow a radiation treatment, this can take three months for some before coming back down which is why PSA tests within the 3 months that follow radiation are not very useful. For some there is no uptick, for some there is.

    1. Thanks, in addition to the fatigue I have frequency and some pain with urination that I'm hoping will go away or at least decrease. I have a 3 month follow up with a PSA test scheduled so thanks for the warning about a potential increase before a decrease

  2. Radiation gave me urination pain too and I was prescribed FloMax which helped a lot. I kept taking it for a month, maybe two, following the end of radiation. When I stopped taking FloMax, urination pain came back briefly but went away for good after a few days.
