Recurring URinary tract infections after surgery

Had my prostate robotically removed 8 weeks ago. Surgery went well but for 7 weeks I’ve had a UTI every time I’ve been tested. Generally feel lousy. Anyone else have or had this!

  1. I had the same thing. Recurrent uti infection. Turned out I had a blockage in my urethra. That was remedied with a simple office visit procedure. It was night and day. After a course of Cipro

    1. Hi . Unfortunately, UTIs do sometimes occur after prostatectomy and can also be related to the catheterization. As mentioned, a course of antibiotics often will take care of this issue. Your doctor should be able to provide further guidance and make sure there is no other issue contributing to recurrence. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

      1. After surgery men can also experience some minor leakage at night or any time during the day. Normally the temporary presence of bacteria due to leakage is not an issue. After surgery even the slightest trace of bacteria could quickly lead to the development of a UTI. You are not alone I know of several men who had the experience. Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)

        1. Thanks for the comments. I also had a blockage-a stricture-which was dilated. It helped my stream but the UTI’s came back. A recent sonogram shows bladder calculi or stones. Maybe that’s dragging this out. Also, have only been prescribed Bactrum. I’ve had 4 courses of it. It did work but the infection returned.

          1. UTI's can be stubborn and can require additional or a different treatment. protocols. Always best to follow up with your MD to determine next steps or the need to test the type of bacteria and how to treat. Dennis(Prostate-Cancer.net TEAM)
