I’m sure what I am writing will not be new news to you at all. We have all heard this our whole life to eat right and exercise.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in men. Although it’s impossible to avoid the development of this disease, a healthy diet can help us maintain our health. Our body is made to renew itself. To better understand this, I will use this simple comparison. If you drive a gasoline-powered vehicle, it will last long and serve you well. But if you put diesel or throw sand in it, it will definitely malfunction.

What about diet and prostate cancer?

If you love your body and provide it with the right nutrients, then your body will have the fuel to function properly and help defend itself.

Nutrition has its effect in helping with prostate cancer and also in the treatment. It’s recommended for patients who have already had prostate cancer to use as much plant-based food as possible to reduce fat intake, especially saturated, to a minimum. This includes meat, milk and dairy products. The intake of refined sugars and refined flour must also be reduced. All of this should be supported by good fluid intake and regular physical activity.2

Curcuma

This yellow spice contains curcumin, a compound that has anti-inflammatory properties. You can use turmeric to season potatoes or zucchini and add it to rice.

Watermelon

In a study conducted by University of Illinois, people who consumed two milligrams of lycopene daily had a lower risk of developing prostate cancer by 1 percent. It may not seem like a lot that, but about 100 grams of watermelon contains four to five grams of lycopene.3

Artichoke

Artichoke contains ferulic acid which is considered to slow down the growth of cancer cells. Diet rich in ferulic acid and caffeine could reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer.3

Sardinia

This fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids that can improve overall prostate health.

Carrot

Carotene is responsible for good vision and men who consume more carrots can reduce their risk somewhat of prostate cancer. Why? The body can easily absorb the carotene found in carrots in comparison to the carotene contained in other products.4

Mushrooms

Eating mushrooms three times a week may reduce the risk of cancer by 20 percent. It is believed that the cause is probably due to compounds that reduce the male hormone cause prostate cancer. Mushrooms also have a beneficial effect on many types of inflammation.5

Pomegranate

Pomegranate juice, known as a potent antioxidant, may slow the development of prostate cancer in people who have already been treated for it. However, the research is inconclusive. It has a very strong antitumor effect both in preventing and extending metastases.6

Foods give our health a boost

Nature has given us many alternatives to help us naturally boost our health. Of course, I’m not saying that eating right every day of your life will prevent illness, but it can help us stay as healthy as possible while battling prostate cancer.
