Beginning the Journey

And so it begins.

Family history and diagnosis

Age 53. Family cancer history. My paternal GF had prostate cancer. Died age 82. My father, who was BRAC2, does at age 59 from Mesothelioma. My sister, also BRCA2, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic last September, at age 50. Upon learning of her diagnosis, I updated PSA, which had been normal in September 2019, to find it was 3.1. Also did a Prenuvo scan that showed indeterminate prostate lesions. December did a mpMRI at UCSF. PIRADS 3. Followed up with Exosome and 4K, which showed 31% and 24%, respectively. PSA now 5. Oncologist was suspicious of csPCA, so biopsy in two weeks.

Future treatments

I honestly don’t know what to expect. Oncologist said: “hey, could be 3+4, which would likely mean active surveillance”. I guess that would be ok for now, but I assume I’ll eventually need surgery. He also said he’s not concerned about “something growing out of control in my prostate” I’ve already decided I’ll do RP if I’m 4+3. I’m young, healthy, sexually active and mpMRI shows fully prostate contained. Of course, a biopsy will tell more.

Will keep the community posted. I appreciate everyone’s stories! Wish me luck
