Hard Journey

My husband was really good about having his DRE and PSA every year early on because his father had died of prostate cancer. In 2009 his PSA started to rise and his urologist didn't think anything about it.

PSA rising and diagnosis

By 2015, it was up to 12 and this time the urologist just told him he was an "old man" (at 65). A few months later, he couldn't urinate and was given Flomax. A few months later, when his PSA hit 32, was given an antibiotic for a month. Two months later, at 52, a biopsy showed he had stage IV prostate cancer, Gleason score 9, and then, with CT scan, showed it had metastasized into his lymph nodes.

Prostate cancer treatment

We changed our diet and his PSA dropped 10 points. 8 rounds of Chemo started in 9/16, with ADT shots monthly in his stomach. He did great, no nausea, just fatigue and hair loss. We changed oncologists in 2018 and his ADT shots went to every 6 months, in his butt. All was going well until Aug. 2019 when PSA started to rise again. Dec.2020 he started Abiraterone and two months later did Immunotherapy with Provenge. All changed again on 11/21 when PSA started to rise again. He started Chemo again next week, but we're both really emotional and apprehensive.

Cancer developing

It just seems like the cancer is becoming more and more resistant and our options are running out. I think being a part of the forum may be beneficial at this time. And, we do have a lot of knowledge about this subject.
