HIFU Procedure

A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed. My wife and I researched our options with 3 urologists. We researched the HIFU procedure. We were fortunate to find a urologist with significant expertise and had conducted the procedure for quite a number of years.

Treatment decisions

Initially my first urologist recommended surgery. However, one of his assistants recommended talking to the oncology dept as well. I made an appointment with the urologist with significant HIFU expertise. Thank goodness I did.

The procedure was one day about 2+ hours of outpatient prep followed the next day with the actual HIFU procedure. My understanding is it's an ultrasound procedure that gets rid of the defective tissue. You have to be evaluated to determine if you are a good candidate. Fortunately, I was.

The aftermath

After the HIFU outpatient, the dr left a catheter for 8-10 days. No incontinence just went to the bathroom a little rushed after 10 days, and my dr gave me medication that took care of the problem. I use a low dose of medication to help with my intimacy. I am still getting things stronger.

I feel extremely blessed

It's been a year and a half feeling great. My PSA has remained cancer-free. I can't tell you how blessed I am to have chosen this option. I hope my experience will provide another option for consideration to others. I feel extremely Blessed.
