   <p>Hi Mr Mac, I’m a little further down this journey than you. I knew I needed to do something last September. It took time to get the MRI and then the PET scan and start interviewing Radiation Oncologists (I have elected to go down the hormone/radiation route). I was told once you are on hormones (orgovyx for me), you are slowing down the growth because prostate cancer needs testosterone to grow. My RO wants to wait 2-3 months for me to shrink my enlarged prostate. Now that time is up and I’m moving towards my radiation treatments. I’ve chosen proton radiation and will get 26 treatments taking 5+ weeks at the NY Proton Center. I still have a few procedures to do (markers and maybe spaceOAR) plus in processing. I’m still 3 weeks away from the start of radiation. I guess the bottom line is go slowly especially if you have starter hormone treatment. This is a big decision and you need to be certain you are committed to your decision 100%. And read, read, read. Good luck.</p>

   <p><inline-mention username="CommunityMember6b7833" user-id="9935707"/> Curt L&#39;s advice to go slowly and read, read, read makes lots of sense. I&#39;d add to that be sure to get more than one medical opinion on treatment options. When my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer he felt it was urgent to have the cancer gone so scheduled removal of his prostate after seeing only one urologist. His surgery was then followed by several rounds of chemo and androgen blockers. In doing research since his surgery and treatment he&#39;s learned there may have been other options just as effective with less negative effects. I guess I sat all that to say do lots of homework - read, read, get opinions, take your time, weigh options and impact of each on your life. Best wishes as you move forward in making your decisions. </p>
