Prostate Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

“You have a badassed cancer,” said my urologist. That was 8 years ago. I have had radical prostatectomy, ADT, and radiation. I have been dealing with urinary leakage which is now controlled but the removal of a benign tumor in my bladder has continued to cause bleeding in my urine. I see my urologist tomorrow which hopefully will solve the problem. We need to stay positive and never stop trying for a cure. The last PSA was 0.47. Think positive.

Hi glad to hear that you are managing your prostate cancer. I have had a similar experience except no tumor in my bladder. I am still dealing with incontinence after 6 years. I have gone to pelvic for therapy and done a zillion kegels with some help until I had a recurrence of my cancer and had to have radiation which made matters much worse. I recently had a urethra bulking procedure done which was supposed to firm up the muscles around the urethra this giving me more control. Well, the exact opposite has occurred. I am worse than when I went in. Can you tell me how you controlled yours? I appreciate any insight you can give me.

 Hi <inline-mention username="Cephas01" user-id="4568295"/>. You mention the Kegel therapy. Mind if I ask if any other treatments/procedures were tried before the urethra bulking? I ask because the research into bulking agents has found that the early ones were not terribly effective and more research needs to be done to determine the effectiveness of newer ones (see: <a href='https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31321804/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer ugc'>https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31321804/</a>). I found this study of a particular bulking agent that found it not to be an effective treatment option and concluded that "It is not a safe treatment option, due to worsening urine loss after treatment:" <a href='https://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/2018/2796967/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer ugc'>https://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/2018/2796967/</a>. One paper noted that other treatments, such as the internal male sling or artificial urinary sphincter should be tried first. A few guys in my support group have opted for slings or sphincter surgery and so far everyone has been pleased. These same guys are now considering implants to improve sexual performance. Candidly I am still way to ("raw)emotionally to consider reentering the dating game. Interesting that Medicare covers implants but not viagra etc . Go figure out that logic . The mind boggles at times on what government sponsored programs do or do not cover. Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)
