4k score results and awaiting an MRI

Hi,
My husband is 57; In September he went for routine bloodwork to include a PSA. Our primary Dr. said his PSA was 4.61. She suggested he make an appointment with a urologist, but it wasn't a rush. Fast forward to January, 4 months later, His PSA is now over 8. They ran a 4k score PSA and results show he is a 40% risk of aggressive cancer. He is scheduled for an MRI in 10 days. Instead of continuing down the Google rabbit hole I was hoping to get some insight from this community. How accurate is the 4k score test? Any words of wisdom? Thank you!

  1. Hi . First, let me say that your husband is fortunate to have you advocating on his behalf. Second, here is an early, but fairly large, study verifying the benefits of the 4KScore test in predicting high risk prostate cancer: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4444768/. A question, which only a doctor can answer, is what to make of the 40% finding? Being that the MRI is non-invasive, it would seem to be a logical next step. Please know that this community is here for both of you and feel free, if you like, to keep us posted on how things are going. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. Rich is right, if we can help just ask. We have been down the road. I do trust the doctors and the test. Been doing this since 2008. But be smart, read up ask questions and dont settle if you want more clarification. Need to push sometimes to get full answers. DanFranke, team member, prostatecancer.net.

      1. Hello,

Just checking to see how your husband is. What was his 4 k test score ? Mine was 5.6.

How did the mri go ? I may do an mri if my PSA keeps going up.
Look forward to hearing back from you.
        Thanks
