When do you get new bone scan during hermonal therapy?

I was wondering how long people with Metastasized prostate cancer to the bones waited to have a second bone scan to see how the treatment has worked I’m on my fifth radiation treatment out of six and I asked the doctor yesterday about when we would have another bone scan I have not been impressed with this doctor from day one he has well we could do one in three months or we could do one in six months whatever you want I don’t know he’s the doctor he should be telling me well you know by rule we’re gonna do it every so many months or The insurance company only pay for one every so often I don’t know I thought that that something he should be clear on when it would happen I’m just not impressed I’m just wondering what other people have gone through on this my PSA is down to 1.6 now which is great it was 15.9 back in September the therapy has been working I would just like to know what other people of that my testosterone is down to 12 thanks Digger

  1. My radiation oncologist noted that it takes time for the radiation to work. At the time I was being treated for a returning cancer following prostate surgery. He said prostate cancer is slow growing and slow to spread .

While there are results from treatment some cancer cells apparently could take longer to react. In short he was suggesting - be patient. I am not currently dealing with metastatic cancer at this point. That said with cancer, I have found MDs tend not to recommend but rather suggest options and let patient’s decide on what is best. Suspect your Doc is not able to know all of the details with each insurance provider

Personally if You are not comfortable with an MD ask for a 2nd opinion and if needed
