Brachytherapy or other options for prostate cancer

I am 66 years old and was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer after my PSA rose to 5.3. My biopsy came back as Gleason 6 3+3. An MRI showed that currently it is confined to the right side and has not spread beyond the prostate. My Dr. is not a fan of active surveillance and not sure I am either. I considered surgery but the risk factors and side effects are making me consider other options. In my area the only other option is standard radiation but multiple treatments and daily preparation sounds rather brutal as well. I am now considering brachytherapy but that would require me to go outside my area for treatment. I would like to hear from others as to which treatment they chose and their experiences. I am particularly interested in anyone that chose brachytherapy. I am still sexually active and the potential loss of function is stressful. Thanks in advance!

  1. I had Proton Therapy 5 years ago. Great treatment NO side effects!
