Do regular ongoing CTs and MRIs for other cancer (ie. kidney cancer) over long time show signs of prostate cancer?

I have had kidney cancer since 2008. Lost left kidney. Stable for 3 years now. Consequently I have undergone regular cuts and MRIs every 6 month for 15 years. Would any signs of prostate cancer be seen in these testing images by now? I had an MRI (at my own request) in 2017 due to higher than normal PSA. It was "all normal-no signs of any clinically significant cancer-only enlarged prostate", My PSA has gone up 2 points in 3 years -from 5. to 6.4 and my urologist ordered a prostate MRI that I have soon. Thanks in advance for any info/experiences relating to these questions.

  1. Hi . It is good that you are getting a prostate specific MRI. I can't honestly say exactly what of the prostate would show up in the previous tests for other areas, but catching prostate cancer early can be a great benefit in treatment. Please feel free to keep us posted on how it goes and to ask additional questions. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. Thank you very much for your caring, compassionate and helpful information. I had some very good news. On Sunday of last week I had the PSA test done at our local hospital (PSA of 6.4). Then on Thursday ,I had to go my cancer hospital to get a urine test to check for prostatitis (ordered by my urologist who Is located in that cancer hospital. The urine test showed no infection. The PSA was 4.4!
I attribute the higher reading on Sunday to to having had sexual relations with my wife too soon prior to the PSA test-duh on me). The Thursday reading four days afterwards reading was a huge relief to say the least.
My urologist still wants me to undergo the MRI due to the changes my PSA has had over the last year (as I had with two readings 3 months apart each taken when I had Prostatitis 6.1 and 6.2).
I am following my urologists' recommendation and still taking the prostate MRI on April 2 just to be certain all if ok.
(I want to add that I have been using homeopathic suppositories from a homeopathic doctor that contain Frankincense and Myrrh for the past month. They are recommended to relieve inflammation and infections to the prostate. Since the day I started using these I have had no pain in my prostate. The 4.4 PSA reading is the lowest I have had since 2017. I never believed much in homeopathic remedies, but for me these work incredibly well.
Much gratitude for everything Richard. I will post an MRI update after April 2nd.

    2. Hi . I wasn't actually aware of frankincense and myrrh as a homeopathic treatment. I did a little looking and there is a long tradition of its use in Chinese medicine. What has been lacking is research verifying the therapy mechanisms. I found this study on Adjuvant-induced Arthritis (AIA) rats that did find specific inflammatory biomarkers that reduced quite a bit with the therapy: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4556964/. It would be interesting to see a study in humans. My wife has autoimmune juvenile onset idiopathic arthritis and I can tell you many in that community would be interested in giving it a try. Wishing the best for your MRI. Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

  2. Hi Richard. If you want more info on the homepathic Dr. I will be glad to send you the info to her net page. (I didn't want to post this info on this site as I did not want it construed as an attempt to sell anything here). I can only speak from my husband's experience of not having any more prostate pain since he started using them. I was amazed. I don't know if these are frankincense and myrrh are used for other pain related purposes but it would not hurt to check into it.
Hopes this will help your wife.
