Docetaxel

79 years old with stage IV prostate cancer which has metastasized throughout my bones. Oncologist now says my keytruda treatment is no longer working and he recommends docetaxel.

Looking for others who have had Docetaxel and are willing to share their experience.

  1. Dear Redroadtraveler -- I was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer with Extensive Bone Metastasis Stage 4 May 22, 2017, my initial chemo treatment was indeed Docetaxel. I also received a week of radiation treatments. Docetaxel was the toughest thing I ever experienced in my life. At the time I was diagnosed, I was a physical education instructor/coach, therefore, I was in extremely good physical condition. You need to know that Docetaxel is known by patients as "the Red Devil". Symptoms I experienced include but not limited to: hot flashes, nausea, diarrhea, extreme constipation at times, high blood pressure, lost my fingernails, lost some toe nails, puking, metal taste in mouth, could not eat (at one point all I could eat was popsicles and ice water). I lost 41 pounds and every hair on my body, and I suffered extreme bouts of depression and anxiety. At one point, I told my wife, "I can not do this anymore!" This is just my own personal experience and anyone should make their own decisions concerning their cancer treatments. I am just recounting truthfully all that I experienced. I will keep you in my prayers daily. Best of Luck! -- Duane
