Eligard, Radiotherapy...and Xtandi?

PC apparently metastatic into lymph glands. Treating with six month Eligard injection since July 2022 and now two weeks into radiation therapy. Doing well with some side effects. From what I've read Xtandi is prescribed when PC is diagnosed as castration resistant, so why would I add it to treatments until I know my PC is resistant? I don't want more unnecessary medicines and/or side effects.

I'm someone who chooses quality of life over quantity. No immediate family to consider.

Anyone else having similar experience?

  1. Hi . It is completely understandable to not want to add medications, particularly without an explanation as to why it is helpful. On top of being used for castration resistant prostate cancer, Xtandi has also been approved for castration sensitive PCa. Don't hesitate to ask and your doctor should be able to explain why it is believed adding Xtandi would be beneficial. Has your PSA responded to the Eligard and has it come down as much as the doctor expected/hoped? Hoping you get some answers soon. Wishing you the best and feel free to keep us posted on how things are going. Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. My doc said hit with everything including the kitchen sink. Beat me up-but still here 14 years later. Prayers and wishing a good outcome for you. DanFranke team member, prostatecancer.net.
