Experiences with Orgovyx for ADT

I will soon be starting ADT with Orgovyx and then 9 weeks of radiation for my localized prostate cancer (Gleason 4+5). My internet research on ADT has led me to so many horror stories regarding side effects, primarily with Lupron (since Orgorvyx is a newer alternative). Can anyone share their experiences using Orgovyx? Thanks!

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to treatment with Orgovyx, but I can tell you that, while it has been found to have many of the same side effects as Lupron. It has also been found to be more effective that Lupron reducing testosterone, with fewer cardiac issues and quicker reduction in side effects upon completion of treatment. This page from the National Cancer Institute goes into further details: https://www.cancer.gov/news-events/cancer-currents-blog/2021/fda-relugolix-prostate-cancer-androgen-deprivation-therapy#:~:text=In%20a%20large%20clinical%20trial,treatment%2C%20leuprolide%20(Lupron). Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. Thanks, Richard!

      1. I am taking Orgovyx with Erleada - knowing that Erleada reduces serum Orgovyx. Does anyone have experience with taking Orgovyx 12 hours before/after Erleada to boost Orgovyx efficacy and treatment response without having to double dose? Many thanks. Bill

        1. While I did not experience Orgovyx I did experience a 6 month Lupron shot along with 8 weeks of radiation for my (Gleason 4+5). While I had many of the unpleasant side effects of Lupron the worst for me was rapid weight gain. At the same time I have known guys who had the same shot and reported few side effects. A lot of this really depends on how your body reacts to various drugs etc. Unfortunately you do not know until you are on it - I would suggest you be careful with diet not only can the pounds go on quickly they were (for me and others) almost impossible to lose until the drug leaves your system. My 6 month shot lasted 14 months in my system along with a new collection of pants ranging from a 32 waist to a 38 with expansion. Back now to a 34 🏃🏻‍♂️ Dennis (ProstateCancer.net TEAM)

          1. Thanks, Dennis. I have made substantial dietary changes in hopes of mitigating the weight gain as much as I can. I'm already missing so many of the foods I enjoy but which lead to weight gain. I've cut out alcohol too. And I've increased my exercise regimen. I hope these steps will be enough to prevent the need for a new collection of pants!
