HIFU HIGH INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND

I would like the HIFU Treament posted on this site with the other TREATMENT OPTIONS that are shown. It is just an other option for anyone who just came down with prostate cancer. The more options a person has the better chance he will have in finding out with choice is right for himself.

  1. Thank you for suggesting more information could be presented on HIFU treatments. The fact that you posted it in this public community has automatically raised the topic. It will now afford opportunities for others to share their experiences and knowledge on the procedure... Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)

    1. Hi . HIFU is starting to become a more common treatment as more facilities and doctors begin to offer it. There has been relatively limited research, but that is also changing. This paper does a meta analysis of a significant amount of the existing research and concludes "that focal HIFU therapy appears to be a safe procedure, while short-term cancer control rate is encouraging. Though, second-line treatment or active surveillance seems to be necessary in a significant number of patients: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34003610/. We actually do have a number of discussions on HIFU in our archive (see this search: https://prostatecancer.net/search?s=hifu) and this article which goes into more detail on focal therapy: https://prostatecancer.net/living/focal-therapy. As we are a patient driven site, there is a certain limit on the number of articles on HIFU as it is still a relatively rare procedure. I suspect as more men opt for this treatment we will be hearing a lot more about it. I've already noticed an increase in discussion and questions. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

      1. Thank you for your resopnce. I had HIFU four years ago. Ative
