High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)

Hi -- has anyone had High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for treatment of prostate cancer? Thank you.

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to HIFU treatment, but I want to share with you this post from a community member where he describes his experience with it: https://prostatecancer.net/stories/hifu-procedure. Hope this information helps and that others chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. "HOW IS YOUR LOVE LIFE"
The article " WHAT NOT TO SAY TO SOMEONE WITH PROSTATE CANCER" Posted July 30,2020 and updated June 2023 by Editorial Team is a well written article.
However ,in my opinion, it looks at it from only one side ,that being a person who doesn't have prostate cancer. A person who has just been medical diagnosed with prostate cancer this should be the FIRST QUESTION they should ask. The change in ones love life is one of the wrost side effects that can occur from the procedures you choose.
There are serval ways to treat prostate cancer. The treatments all have different side effects. If I did not ask members of a support group who have had different procedures HOW IS YOUR LOVE LIFE I would of never learned of all the Horrible side effects that can occur from different procedures.
I am a 75 years old, who is still sexually active. I had no negative side effects from HIGH INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND (HIFU). I have two friends that have had the same results after they had HIFU.
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound HIFU took 2 1/2 hours . I am cancer free for 4 years now. My love life has not been effected by the HIFU Procedure. I was able to preform 7 days after HIFU. This was only due to waiting to have the catheter removed.
IF i did not ask How is your Love Life, I would of never looked into HIFU.
HIFU should be told to everyone when they diagnosed with prostate cancer. Then they can make the choice based on their medical condition along with what type of life style they would like.
HIFU should be added to this sites MENU UNDER TREATMENT. This would added one more TREATMENT OPTION , which could be helpful to newly diagnosed people .

  2. Thank you so much for the good information.

    1. I had it done close to 5 years ago, with no side effects. I know of two other that had HIFU done also with no side effects.

      1. That is good to hear. Thank you very much for your reply.
