Husband's Recurrence

Hi,
I'm writing on behalf of hubby, 76 who was first diagnosed in 2013 and had surgery to remove his prostate April 2013. At the time, he was graded as Gleason 9, and post surgical biopsy rated his cancer was rated pT3b NO R1.
PSA started rising in 2017 and he went on hormone treatment Sept 2017 - March 2018 and radiation (prostate area) January 2018.
PSA rose again in 2022 and following a PSMA Pet scan, had radiation again (prostate area) July 2022.
He's been having his PSA tested every 3 months, and it has started rising again...currently at 0.35 and will likely reach 0.40+ at his next text in September, which will then trigger another PSMA Pet scan.

We're having challenges finding out what possible options can be, understandably, since we won't know what we're dealing with until after PSMA Pet scan. But we are curious if others have gone through something similar. How many times can the same area be radiated?
Thanks!
Karen & Dave

  1. Hi I am so glad you found our community and you have reached out. It is great that you are trying to find out all options and are being an advocate for your husband. While I hope our community members respond here with their personal experiences with this, I am sending over an article about radiation: https://prostatecancer.net/treatment/radiation-therapy. In addition, here are some personal stories from our members of what they did when their PSA numbers were rising: https://prostatecancer.net/forums/after-prostatectomy-psa-rising, https://prostatecancer.net/forums/psa-rising-with-3-3month-doubling-time-after-radical-prostatectomy-further-actions and https://prostatecancer.net/living/rising-psa-prostatectomy. I hope this is helpful. Please keep us posted on how your husband is doing. Jill (team member)
