PSA LEVELS quadrupled in 1 month

My fiancee, who's 48 and African American, had a PSA of 8 in August. He had MRI done which showed a lesion PI-RADS 3 per radiology, but showed nothing in bones or surrounding tissue/bones ect. Before this his average PSA was around 5, and he had 1 biopsy a couple years ago, which was benign.

He had new blood work done at VA this week and his PSA is now 40!!! They've scheduled a biopsy of the lesion from MRI for next week.

My concern is the rapid increase in such a short time. He has no symptoms, no issues urinating, pain or anything like that. Has anyone had experience with a quadrupling of PSA in just under a month? We are so scared 😭

  1. I have a quick question to ask. Before his most recent PSA test, did your fiance engage in any bike riding/motorcycling on that week? Impact to the pelvic floor can cause a false and temporary elevation of the PSA.

    1. Not to get too personal, but has he been stimulating his prostate manually during sex? This can also cause a rise in PSA.

Please let me know the results of the biopsy. And have your fiance ask for mild sedation if he feels he needs it for this procedure. Many men opt out of that and as I am sure you fiance knows, it can be a fairly traumatic experience. Sending well wishes to you both.

    2. they are doing his biopsy under general anesthesia. And no he doesn't stimulate prostate during sex. I'll update once we know results. Side note, we looked at blood work from the tests done that showed 40 PSA, and his monocytes and eosinophils were high too.

  2. I am glad he is opting for general anesthesia. I will stay tuned for the results of the biopsy.
