My Prostate Cancer Story...
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2011. My doctor gave me several options such as wait & see; implanting radioactive seeds or fully remove the prostate! I chose surgery! I was out of work for 8 weeks.
As a couple, we were both battling cancer
The recuperation wasn’t easy but I got through it with help from my wife! You see she had just recovered from colon cancer! She started Chemo after I recovered from surgery! So we were slightly busy, to say the least! We thought these experiences were behind us, but life sometimes doesn’t work that way!
Prostate cancer recurrence and proton therapy
In March of 2015, almost 4 years to the day of my initial cancer diagnosis, Cancer raised it’s ugly head again! My prostate cancer had returned. This time because my cancer was isolated in the area where my prostate had been, I chose proton radiation treatment! So I went through 39 proton radiation treatments!
Two-time prostate cancer survivor
I didn’t feel pain during each treatment, which lasted about 35 to 45 minutes each time! I felt tired, mostly with a little cramping from time to time! I’ve been cancer-free ever since! My doctors were amazing, especially my radiation oncologist Dr. Baseman!
Agent Orange exposure
What I didn’t mention was that my prostate cancer was determined to be caused from exposure to Agent Orange while I was stationed in Vietnam in 69-70 and again in 71-72!
I consider my wife and I are Blessed to still be here.
