Trying to avoid blind biopsy

   <p>In October 2020 I had a transrectal biopsy and it wasn&#39;t bad at all. My urologist explained the procedure very well then gave me a numbing shot (similar to novacain). He also demonstrated the sound made when each sample is taken so I wouldn&#39;t be startled. He took 12 samples, and in my mind I focused on counting...what number was that, how many remain, etc. The taking of each sample wasn&#39;t what I characterize as painful, more like a slap. The procedure took about 15 minutes, which afterwards seems pretty darn fast.<br/>The nurse provided a pad which contained all rectal bleeding over the next several hours. There was blood in my urine for about 24 hours, then some dry blood spots a few days later. That was it.<br/>To be clear, at no time did I feel what I would call pain. Discomfort, sure, but no pain. <br/>Considering what the cancer could have done to me I am thankful to have had an experienced urologist who was so thorough and patient explaining things, and I do not hesitate endorsing what the transrectal biopsy did for me. <br/>Good luck and let us know how and what you&#39;re doing.</p>

      <p>BTW, I had two transperineal procedures prior to external beam radiation, inserting fiducial markers into my prostate, then SpaceOAR. At no point in any of these 3 procedures did I feel what I consider pain. Today, I am happy with the choices I made, and I wish you all the best in your journey.</p>
