Diagnosis

Hi!
In Oct 2019 my Dad (now 7😎 was told he had BPH. During that time mom was being diagnosed w/lung cancer and multiple myeloma, and died in May. In the beginning of March, my dad went to dr, DRE, was told it felt like cancer. He couldn't get in for a biopsy until April 28th. During that time he became increasingly achy. They did a PSA, 200; he was told it was mostly likely prostate cancer metastasized to bones. Sure enough, the bone scan showed foci everywhere, skull, ribs, legs, arms, spine etc. He was sent a copy of radiology report yesterday, and has not heard back. He is assuming he is going to die. Is there some hope w/ a scan like that? I can't believe less than a year after my mom died, we are going through this again. It will help when someone actually calls him back, but in the meantime this is hard.

  1. Unfortunately cancer does not care about our feelings. You wake up one day and are told you or someone close to you has this unwelcome guest living in your body. While offering medical advice on line is not helpful I will say there are a number of treatments that can slow a spreading cancer down. There are also clinical trials that may offer additional options. Your best is to ask a lot of questions of the oncology team. If possible connect with a major cancer center for a second opinion and connections to other resources.

    1. , I am so sorry you are going though this. My father got diagnosed at age 72 with PC. He is now 87. If I were you I would try calling someone else to ask questions; never give up. Keep bugging them until you get an answer. Keep us up to date. Diane, Community Moderator
