Enhanced PSA test?

I have been in this journey for about 2 years now and finding this site has been nothing short of incredible.....hearing others with the same emotions/fears/hopes/and experiences is so very helpful. After a PSA of 7 I had the biopsy (ain't that a hoot) which showed a non-aggressive cancer which resulted in a very low Gleason. Doc suggested we keep an eye on it and since then I have had about 6 PSA tests and the number decreased to about 4.2-4.3 for the last 3 tests. Doc said that on the next test he will do an 'enhanced' PSA. So my question is that is this something new and what does it do that the normal PSA test apparently does not do? Thanks in advance to all commentors.

  1. Hi . I'm not exactly sure what your doctor may be referring to as an enhanced PSA, as there are several things that come to mind such as total PSA or percent free PSA. Another possibility that comes to mind is an IsoPSA test which was granted breakthrough device designation by the FDA and I actually wrote about here: https://prostatecancer.net/clinical/isopsa-test. Testing can be sent out and is now more widely available, with more specifics here: https://www.isopsa.com/allfaqs. Hopefully your doctor can provide more specifics on what he is referring to.
