Fans for hot flashes

Being on hormone therapy for about 3 months I am having 4 or 5 episodes of hot flashes per day. Air circulating fans for about 10 minutes or more have helped the most. I now have a variety of fans. A tower fan for when I am watching TV or chatting with friends. A neck fan is great at the dinner table or when cooking or doing something like yard work needing hands free. Out in the public a necklace fan is convenient, kept in a large pocket or bag and helpful. Fan noise can be an issue.

Do you have more solutions?

  1. Hi . I recall that our contributor was a fan of the hand held fan. Also, I want to share with you this article on dealing with hot flashes: https://prostatecancer.net/living/dealing-hot-flashes. It includes treatments and management tips. Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

    1. Richard, thank you for your help and the link to this article. I fount it most useful.

      1. - As Richard pointed out I found fans to be somewhat helpful. I often carried a pocket fan with a self contained water container. On very hot summer days the fan was not enough for me - But add in a water spray + the breeze along + evaporation and it proved to be more effective. I also installed a ceiling fan in the bedroom for help at night. Even with the air-conditioning on the fan on low provide much need relief to sleeping. I found the neck fans to be noisy unless you can find a good one. Hope my into helps. Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)
