Have you attended a support group for prostate cancer?

Support groups are a great place to find community through a journey with prostate cancer. They are not only helpful for patients, but also great support for caregivers and family members as well.

Have you attended a prostate cancer support group as a patient? What about as a family member? Have you gone as a caregiver to someone with prostate cancer? Regardless of how you found yourself there, tell us about your experiences in those support group settings.

Also, see this community forum: https://prostatecancer.net/forums/support-group-for-partners-of-those-with-prostate-cancer. Where a community member asks about the best places to find support groups for partners of patients with prostate cancer.

  1. The Support Group I attended allowed me to learn from others that I was not alone, and I was able to learn about the many options available.

    1. One learns from support groups.

      1. There are some local support groups. But I haven't needed them. I have a very supportive wife and very caring adult kids. And I have a large church family with several others currently going through prostate or breast cancer. So I have lots of people to talk to if and when needed.

        1. Great, you have a supportive family circle and a church support network. I often found opening up and speaking more freely in faith-based groups easier than in others. One of the best I attended was a 13-week program complete with moderators, video support, and small break-out discussion groups. Dennis(ProstateCancer.net TEAM)

      2. Nope No support group. I was diagnosed in 2014 & had the surgery that November. My wife & I tried to form one but got tired of getting laughed at about Prostate check up. Where we live they all think it's a joke. Even at my men's bible church we use to go to. So instead we just rely on each other.
