Help - Relapse possible

Requesting your input:

Situation:
1. I was diagnosis with prostate cancer in 2018.
Gleason score was 7 (4+3), stage 3 b and bone scans & mri was negative for metastasis.
2. Treatment was EBRT, LDR Brachy x1and ADT ( last dose was 1 yr ago.)
3. NOW routine psa testing showed a PSA of 1.97 and 6 months ago it was 0.8. I presently have no symptoms.
Will have PSA retested in 2 months.

Question:
1. Preparing for the worse situation of an elevated PSA - what are my treatment options-?

Thank you

ed

  1. Your doctor will have the best answer to your question. I would ask for second and third opinions as well. For the most part those of us here are patients and aren't knowledgeable enough about your situation to give you a good medical answer.
If the cancer has returned the treatment will depend on where it is and other factors. When you learn more, update us and those of us who are at the same place as you may have some insight.

    1. Hi . Sorry to hear about the rising PSA. Your concerns are certainly understandable. That said, there are possible explanations and certainly options if there is a reoccurrence. I want to share with you this page from Prostate Cancer Foundation about questions to ask when PSA is rising after radiation, including additional information about rising PSA after treatment: https://www.pcf.org/about-prostate-cancer/diagnosis-staging-prostate-cancer/psa-rising/what-to-ask-when-your-psa-is-rising-after-initial-treatment/. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing Best, Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)

      1. Good Morning Did you use a Space OAR insert prior to RT. I am about to go through EBRT and found information that suggested by using the Space OAR you may be able to have a PT later without alot of the complications with RT before PT. If you used the Space OAR it may be a questions to ask.

        1. Hey Ed Bulldog. Hang in there you are not alone. I'm a thirteen year survivor-going through the worlds slowest relapse. PSA has been climbing since 2018-last reading was yesterday .265ng/ml. (This is my third bio-chemical relapse-no visable matatisis yet.) Really just dancing with the devil right now. Previously relapses I'd go back on Lupron until PSA went back down. Had some cardio issues with Lupron so stalling before I begin treatment again. Doc and I will choose next regimin when its time. Looking at Xtandi or others. Let me know which way you go-thanks and God bless. DanF, moderator, ProstateCancer.ent.
