hernia after prostectomy

I underwent a radical robotic prostectomy in July 2020. I was very pleased with the results, the pathology found the cancer was confined to the prostate, the psa was 0.1 after 3 mo. I recovered full bladder control after 5 weeks or so. However, I developed a hernia,at age 73,abot 5 mo. after the surgery. An internet search on reputable sites showed about 8 to 12 % or so men develop an inguinal hernia within two years. This side effect is not mentioned anywhere I am aware of as a consequence of surgery. If anyone else has had this problem I would like to know how soon and results of any hernia repair you had. Thanks.

  1. I had an inguinal hernia 4 years after my prostectomy.

    1. I also had a hernia 1 year after my robotic proctectomy and my hernia repair was successful. And this possible side effect was not mentioned when I was choosing a treatment plan. It all worked out but frustrating.

      1. Hi all. I wanted to share with you this research of 427 RARP cases done by one surgeon which found 6.79% of patients had an inguinal hernia (IH) within two years: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6155957/. In addition, this study found a high instance of IH following RARP with incidence being "significantly associated with surgical experience and incontinence outcomes:" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5353804/. 1. Thank you for your comments.I was advised to wait one year for the surgery to repair the hernia,so i will wait until july . It is not very painfull, but it does limit my activities. i am happy the cancer appears to be gone, i will deal with the hernia
