HiFu Treatment

My Uro oncologist suggests that I consider HiFu.
I understand that it is not cover by insurance.
Looking for feedback regarding this treatment, side effects, etc.
Thank you in advance.

  1. I had it done close to 5 years ago, no side effects. Medicare is now paying some of the cost. I only have to get my PSA checked to make sure it doesn't go up. I was gleanson 7 with an 7.5 PSA . My Psa after the 2 1/2 hour procedure went down to 0.85 , for the last four years been 0.85 then went to 1.00 , after having a CT was contrast shows no cancer. The PSA can go up a little but been remaining below 1. wishing you the best.

    1. Johnny R. Thank you so much for your reply. So glad to hear that things are going well. I go for my next PSA test in mid June so I am sure that these issues with come up. Again, thank you.

      1. your welcome Good luck with everything

    2. Im not a HIFU expert, but you should do research on it. I hear from a cure point of view, it is being debated.

Here is a good website to compare your odds of cure for the major treatment paths. You have to determine your stage, low risk, intermediate, or high risk (risk of recurrence). So if you are intermediate, pull up the intermediate chart and you can see your odds of 10-20 yr survival, etc. based on the treatment you pick.

It is best viewed on computer or just print it on paper. Not so viewable on phone.

To make the graphs easier to read, i drew a dot on the endpoints of the elipses, and then drew a line through the dots. This turns the elipses into lines.
