IHT Experiences?

I'm 75 years old. First diagnosed in December 2005, primary radiotherapy in 2006, salvage brachytherapy in 2010, salvage HIFU in 2020, and ADT starting in June 2020.

ADT's side-effects have been extreme and intense, so my oncologist has suggested that I try an intermittent hormone treatment program.

If you're on or have been on IHT, I'd be grateful for any insights or learnings.

Thanks.

  1. Hi I am glad you reached out. While I hope our community members respond here with their personal experiences, I am sending you over a couple forum discussions about hormone therapy: https://prostatecancer.net/forums/hormone-treatment, https://prostatecancer.net/forums/hormone-treatment-shots-wear-off. I hope this is helpful. Jill, prostatecancer.net team

    1. Thank you. Those posts reflect what I've experienced during the past three years.

But my question was about experiences of an IHT vacation. I'll likely start such a program in a couple of months, and would like to be as prepared as possible.

      1. I need to make a decision. Do I continue to get Lupron injections every three months, and continue to suffer from the side effects? Or do I take a drug vacation, and return to the Lupron regime only when my PSA count goes up to a pre-decided level? Your thoughts?

        1. hi again. We are not medical professionals, so we can not give medical advice. Have you talked through all of your concerns with your doctor? If you haven't, I would recommend sharing your thoughts with them and see what they think about a IHT vacation. I wish I could help you more, but since everyone is unique, only your doctor knows your full medical story. Wishing you all the best in making a decision. I know it is not easy. 2. The IHT option was offered by my oncologist. I followed up with some research, and am currently leaning towards beginning my vacation in March.
