Just got the news

I'm a 58 yr old and was diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer. Urologist is all for removal. I'm setting up consultations with radiologist and surgeon. Both highly regarded. My question is: which procedure you had, results and if you would have done something different. Thank you

  1. I’m 57 and was diagnosed with state 2 prostate cancer last year . I had robotic radical prostatectomy last May. The surgery went well. It turned out that I actually had stage 3 meaning the cancer had already started to spread. They removed all the cancer. The recovery is a little rough for the first 4 or 5 days. Take the pain meds the first night. Expect stomach and gas pain for a few days. Once that goes away you will start feeling a lot better. You will also have a catheter for a couple weeks. It’s very uncomfortable.

    1. I am 63 and had stage 1 cancer. My options were to do nothing, do what I call the Roto-Rooter option (partial removal) and a full removal. The first 2 options would mean I would probably still have to deal with the cancer later and I would probably need to continue doing the self-catheter due to my bladder retention. Since I lost both of my parents to cancer, I went with the robotic assisted radical Prostatectomy at the end of October. The surgery and surgical recovery went very well - even with the Foley catheter in for 3 weeks. The incontinence that I am dealing with now is hard, but I will get through this. There is no question I make the same choice.

      Good luck with your journey.
