Lupron with PSA of zero

My history with P C has spanned some 15 years. I will give a brief history before the question.
I was dianoised with a psa of 20. I decided on proton treatment in Jax. Fla. During treatment Lupron was given. After 5 years it went to zero.
It stayed there until year 10, it went above 0.1 .It kept climbing until year 14. It would then double each year. Each year I would go to Jax to see my radiation Dr.
In 2022 he had me take a MRI and using the latest Neucelar tracer. The Psa by this time was around 7 or 8. The scan showed nothing.
He then said there was nothing else he could do and then walked out of the room. He should have at least reccomended a good medical oncologist.
I then went to see a local med. oncologist. He said there was Lupron. Psa by now was 14. So I took the 3 month shot.
Three months later I went and the P.A gave me another 3 month shot and drew blood for a psa test. The PA called me in a couple of days and said the psa was zero. It seems to me if the psa went to zero the Lupron could be stopped.
I am to see my GP and have another psa test before I return to the Med Onc.
I have read lots of forum post and have not found anyone with a similar situiation. What do you suggest?

  1. I have battled this since 2013 and have been through surgery then LUPRON and radiation and most recently for a spot found on my hip bone - My suggestion is find a major cancer treatment center and set up a date with a medical oncologist - I have gone from being treated by a GP to a urologist at a regional hospital to a radiation oncologist at the same hospital to the Smilow Cancer Treatment Hospital and now off to UVA in Charlottesville VA . My advice is seek out the best treatment center you can.

(Regarding your LUPRON question - I am not an MD so this is just personal experience speaking not medical advice ... The fact the PSA has gone to ZERO may be temporary I am aware of men in my group who have had similar outcomes and it was suggested they stay on treatment for 2 years.) Good luck my friend . 1. Thanks Dennis. If anyone has used Lupron,, what was your psa when you stopped? And how long did you stay off?

      1. I was on Lupron ( after radiation) along with xtandi ( they go hand in hand) for two years. PSA and testosterone went to undetectable. Off both for six glorious months. Both are now climbing so after scans next month, will go back to Lupron/ xtandi because they work. Not sure what I will do if scans don’t find any cancer . Will cross that bridge…..
I have read that Lupron works better when the body takes a break…for me it was a six month break.

        1. pciv68 I would not place too much on the scan. As stated in my first post I had the latest type of scan. My psa was 7. The scan was from my chin to my ankles. I would imagine the scan was done properly, but I have no way of knowing.
