Not Diagnosed Yet, But Trying to Prepare

Hey, just came across this to do some reading and research and figured I'd drop a post. I haven't been diagnosed yet, I'm awaiting a biopsy, just.... trying to prepare, I suppose?

MRI showed a 4cm lesion rated PI-RADS 5 so I'm expecting the worst. I'll be reading some of the posts to find things that help me process, cope, and prepare with this. Much love to you all.

  1. Hi . Your concerns over the PI-RADS 5 finding is certainly understandable and it is great that you have sought out a place you can get information and support. You may have already seen that, as noted in this article "PI-RADS 5 lesions represent clinically significant (Gleason Grade Group 2 or greater) prostate cancer between 75% and 95% of the time:" https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S107814392030644X. This also means that there is a possibility that it is not clinically significant cancer. This article also found that an MRI-targeted biopsy may be sufficient for a PI-RADs 5 lesion, without a systemic biopsy. This may be worth discussing with your doctor before the biopsy to see if this would apply in your case. Please feel free to keep us posted on how things go and to ask additional questions. Wishing you the best. Richard (Team Member)

    1. I did not discuss but biopsy was moved up from mid June to later this month after I asked for something sooner. Initial MRI shows everything contained which is a plus and I’m relatively young (40) which I think works to my advantage? I’m happy that I’ll have more info sooner but that creates a different level of anxiety.

  2. Here are a few thoughts from someone who has experienced this situation several times. No matter how prepared you think you are, hearing the words "you have prostate cancer (PCa)" will send your mind and emotions into a tailspin. Hopefully, this won't be the case for you. If it does happen, it's important to remember that most men can be treated and go on to live normal lives for many years.

PCa is not a death sentence; rather, it is a treatable disease. Dennis (Patient Leader) and founder of www. PCaAware.org

    1. thanks. I’m preparing myself for that and hoping for the best. I know it’s generally very treatable and I have no current symptoms so that’s all positive too. Just waiting for the next steps.

  3. I too am trying to prepare. My mri indicated pi rads 5 3.2 cm tumor. Just got my targeted biopsy results. Gleason 3 plus 4. Symptoms are bad and waiting on consultation. Scary. Good luck to you

    1. sorry, posted too quickly. Anyway the day of the procedure i was unusually calm. It was pretty fast and only had mild symptoms afterwards. It wasn't the nightmare I had read about. Good luck on yours.

    2. I have an MRI fusion biopsy scheduled. The pre-biopsy swab is scheduled for next week, so while I’m grateful that it’s moved up, the additional appointments trigger all new anxiety. My original biopsy was 10-11 weeks out.

  4. Thank you Richard! Post biopsy consultation is tomorrow. I appreciate the info on the psma pet scan. I will definitely be asking about that

    1. Hi . Just want to follow up to see how you are doing? Hope your appointment went well and that, whatever the results, they are working with you on a plan. Best, Richard (Team Member)
