Penile pumps and rings

Maintaining a rigid erection can be difficult after receiving a prostate cancer diagnosis and treatments. Has anyone used penis pumps or rings to achieve more rigid erections?

  1. Yes, I have used penis rings with great success. Start with very stretchy rings that will go around the penis and under the testicles for the safest and most effective option. I have used one with and without ED meds. Don't leave it in place for more than 1/2 hour. If you have trouble getting it off, then it is too small! Stop! Get something a little larger.

I have not been able to make the pump useful. I have a cheap one but that much fussing has been a libido killer (for what little libido I have left!).

    1. The more expensive pumps do perform better but can be very expensive - your heath care insurer can let you know if is covered by Insurance under rehab care. You can get a fairly good one at one of the adult book stores or on line - Good luck Dennis

  2. Thanks for weighing in on this! Many guys are reluctant to have the testicles in the ring as well, but from a pelvic floor standpoint, the blood needs to flood BOTH the penis and testicles. So glad this is working for you!

One other question, if you don't mind. Were you using the pump for increased erections or for tissue elongation of the penis?

Some men use a penile pump in the absense of erections after PCa in order to keep the elasticity of the tissues and prevent fibrotic changes of the penis. In this case, pumps don't always lend themselves to improved libido, as you mentioned.

    1. I have used it mostly to maintain or regain erection length. I lost 1 1/2 in. after radiation and Lupron, but was able to gain 1 in. back with the pump. Now after being back on Lupron for two years I have lost that again, and maybe more. The pump is now painful and frustrating!

When I tried to use it to get a useful erection in the past it seemed clumsy, libido-killing and ineffective. Never once did I get a truly helpful result.

      1. I am encouraged that you regained penile length with the pump. It is common to lose that with prostate cancer treatment. Pumps and masturbation seem to top the list for maintaining elasticity of the penis. Some guys don't want to masturbate, others don't like the pump. When it becomes painful, however, it likely isn't helping much, as you have said.

Also, some men use a pump with water in the shower and report less discomfort.

Another question: were the penis rings used with medication (Cialis, Viagra, or Levitra)? You needn't reply if this is too personal a question.

      2. Yes, I use the penis ring mostly with Sildenefil (Viagra). This has never caused a problem. Still, seldom an erection lasting long enough for satisfactory intercourse. The addition of Xtandi to the Lupron has really changed things for the worse. I may try a different sort of pump. I have never tried the water based type.

    2. I have used both.
I currently use the VED for daily rehab exercises without a constriction ring.
I will on occasion use the ring if my wife and I are going to enjoy intimacy.

That said I also take a daily Cialis as part of my treatment and also take a Viagra, again when we are going to enjoy intimacy later in the evening.

The firmness does not stay long even with the constriction ring and so working with my rehab doctors we are going into the next level of medications, Urethral BiMix Gel and then on to TriMix injections for better and longer lasting results.
