Best of luck with whatever treatment you do. I am on a 7 month course of Lupron, hormone treatment. I have had side effects. Hot flashes - They are a pain but the hardest part is a flushed feeling I get at the same time. I bot a small desk fan off Amazon and it's a lifesaver. Night sweats - just a hot flash at night? But I wake up dripping sweat, throw blankets off and get cold. Definitely fatigue and lack of energy. Doing yard work that I used to do all day non-stop I have to take a break every 20 - 30 minutes and sit down. Have gained some weight around waist and chest. And everything male has gotten way smaller if you know what I mean.
I went into the hormone therapy in really good shape .. regular heavy weight lifter and fit
With that said my last PSA, June 25, after 7 weeks radiation, and on Lupron was undetectable.
63yo, prostatectomy Oct 2024 .. positive margins post surgery ..began Lupron APril 2025. 7 weeks radiation May
Initial PSA 23.7, Gleason 7 4+3,

Hi . Weight gain while on hormone therapy, as you noted, is not uncommon. However, not as much discussed is that muscle loss can also occur, particularly with longer-term hormone therapy (see: https://prostatecancer.net/living/aging-hormone-therapy). I also want to share with you this article from Dan on the combination of chemo and hormone therapy: https://prostatecancer.net/living/experience-chemotherapy-adt. He notes getting sick from the treatment, but also what he calls an increase in surface fat. I also know that diarrhea is not uncommon with the chemo. Have your doctors had any thoughts on managing the side effects? Best, Richard (Team Member)
