Post radiation and low blood counts

I completed 45 radiation treatments for prostate. A recent blood test shows low hemocrit hemoglobin and red blood counts. Is this normal?
Thanks

  1. Hi . The two things that you mention are both signs of anemia, which can definitely be a side effect of cancer treatment (see: https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/side-effects/anemia). With prostate cancer, if you had androgen deprivation therapy that can also contribute to anemia. Has your doctor discussed ways to boost your iron? This article discusses foods that can help: https://prostatecancer.net/living/foods-iron-deficiency-anemia. If the anemia is particularly bad iron infusions are a possibility (see: https://prostatecancer.net/living/iron-infusions). Of course, we are not medical professionals and it is important to discuss what is right for your case with your doctors. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Richard (Team Member)
