When can patients expect introduction of Prostvac as a treatment option for localized Adenocarcinoma?

P Ca patients with localised lesions with low to intermediate risk are faced with the side effects of radical therapies. There is news of an ongoing trial of Prostvac as immunotherapy for localised P Ca to halt disease progression. Is it possible to share the current status please? Thanks.

  1. Hi PeeKaaFighter.Glad to see you are doing research into treatments. Unfortunately, a Phase III trial for PROSTVAC was discontinued last fall after performing no better than a placebo. Here is the company's statement on the discontinuation: http://www.bavarian-nordic.com/pipeline/prostvac.aspx. The statement mentions potentially pursuing other possible uses for the drug, including combination therapies, however, I did not find anything about this research (this certainly does not mean it doesn't exist). 1. Hi,

      Thank you for the response.

I did come to hear of the Prostvac phase III trial discontinuation. That trial was for metastatic prostate cancer.

But there was mention of a trial on efficacy of Prostvac in relation to localized prostate cancer with the aim to halt disease progression. Here is a link https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02326805

Similarly, there was mention in 2012 of possibility of trying Provenge treatment at an early stage of the disease. But nothing has been heard of that.

If these immunotherapies succeed even partially in slowing down disease progression, in many cases, probably running into tens of thousands, recourse to life-changing radical treatment could be avoided.

      Best wishes.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing this information PeeKaaFighter. I noticed the expected completion date for the trial is now less than a year out. Hopefully this one will offer some positive results. I didn't find any additional information on it, which isn't surprising considering there is almost never news released while the study is ongoing (unless it is halted for some reason - so, no news is good news on that front).
