PSA question

My first two PSA tests after my robot assisted prostatectomy were <.13 and the Urologist stated everything was fine and the surgeon said I could consider myself cancer free. My third PSA was done by a different laboratory and came back as .044 and the note on the result was (up - referred to urologist). I am going back at the end of the week to the Urologist but trying to figure out if this means he's going to refer me for radiation. I did have 2mm's identified at the margin in the surgery write-up.

  1. I’m not a doctor but I do know it can come back after prostatectomy. They might start hormone treatment to suppress testosterone. Lupron and Casodex are common right now but there are others drugs. This is literally chemical castration. I’ve been on it over 4 years. It really impacted my stamina and all but wiped out my sex drive. I had one doctor take me off of lupron because my testosterone was at 4 and said I don’t need it anymore. He left Kaiser and my new doc put back on it. Yesterday at another consult, this onc told me I don’t need it!
In hindsight, I would consider a full castration. The doc said you can’t tell. Then the side effects are less severe. But then some people have no problem at all with lupron.

    1. Update, I saw my urologist and he said .044 was right where I needed to be, I'm not due to get another PSA or go back until March 2023.
