PSA up after 16 years

2008, prostate removed, follow with Radiation, now 16 years later number is high enough for doctor to order PET scan
But??? Came back with no cancer?
Why..number at 2.1

  1. Hi I am sure you were relieved that the PET scan showed no signs of cancer. I wanted to send you over this article about PSA tests and I hope it clears up some of the questions you may have: https://prostatecancer.net/living/psa-blood-test-results. I hope this was helpful. 1. Thank you, but I had the PSMA PET scan
At 71 for last 8 months no energy

      1. thanks for your comment. I want to make sure I understand what you are asking, was your level from your PSA test 2.1? And if so, are you wondering why the doctor ordered a PET scan? The reason I included a link about PSA levels was because I assumed you got a PSA test and it was high enough that the doctor ordered a PET scan. The article talks about an how an elevated PSA doesn’t mean you have cancer, and a low PSA doesn’t mean you don't, so the PSA test by itself cannot detect prostate cancer. The PSMA PET scan has helped to identify whether prostate cancer has spread or returned. I wish you had more energy, has this been going on for a while? Jill, prostatecancer.net team

    2. Thank you Jill, with my number jumping for the last 16 years and now hit 2.1 I through for sure the PET scan would have found something ? And with no energy for the last 8 months, but everything came back good!
Can a PET scan miss something, maybe in the bones?

      1. thanks for clarifying. I am glad that the scan looked good but I can definitely understand your concern about your fatigue. I am sending over this article with further information about the PET scan: https://prostatecancer.net/treatment/psma-targeted-pet-imaging. I am also sending over this article about testing information to see if the cancer has spread: https://prostatecancer.net/diagnosis/test-spread. I would definitely mention to your doctor your concerns, if you haven't done so already. They know your situation the best and should be able to provide you with further information.
