PSA up and down.

I had my Prostate removed in 2010. PSA going up and down since then. My high 3.9 Dr said don't worry unless it goes to 4.0 and above. I had Bone scan, Cat scan, PET scan and a pelvic MRI. Oncologist cannot see anything and stated if I can't see anything i can't treat it. PSA went down to 3.3 as of last week. Going for checkup with Oncologist next month. Any ideas?

  1. My husband went from a psa .02 to 16 then down to 0.4 yet they tell us he's terminal. I just hope it stays low but the ups and downs scare the he'll out of me anybody else

    1. I wonder if the majority of your husbands cancer is no longer producing PSA. Once prostate cancer progresses it can become a different animal and a portion of the cancer can be very malignant and wild and quit producing PSA. As I understand it, there are ways of assessing the total volume of cancer in the body, but the critical question is what his scans and other diagnostic tests reveal the cancer is doing to his bones and other organs.

      1. My doc said for me 7.0 would be my point of restarting treatments. Dont think I will live long enough to see that level praise God. Been fortunate with slow growth. Relapsed a couple of times in fourteen years but stable for a long time now. Good luck. DanFranke, moderator, prostatecancer.net.

        1. Hi, I’m not sure how many people know this but PSA levels are sometimes affected by outside influences. PSA levels can be elevated by eating fried foods before the blood draw. Riding a bicycle. Sex or an ejaculation. Digital rectal exam. Siting for long periods of time. All of these can inflate results. So to get your true numbers, keep these things in mind.
