Still urinating a lot at night after 2.5 years

Had the cancer 2.5 .years ago, with a gleason score of 8.5. Did the radiation treatments and seed implants.PSA came down to .02. last fall it came back, more radiation and my PSA scores have remained at .02 so far. During all this time I have been on flomax and lupron shots. Still getting up 4-6 times a night to urinate. Will this ever decrease ?

  1. Hi . Different people recover urinary incontinence at different rates. That said, what you describe seems like a long term issue. Does your doctor have you doing kegels or recommended a pelvic floor therapist. In this article our contributor and pelvic floor therapist discusses pelvic floor exercises: https://prostatecancer.net/living/pelvic-floor-muscles. You may also want to click on her name and access her other articles and videos. Of course, some urinary issues are more difficult and there are a number of potential treatments. This article from our editorial team provides an overview: https://prostatecancer.net/living-coping/incontinence. Your doctor should be able to provide additional information. Wishing you the best. 1. No, my doctor has not mentioned any of that to me. Thanks for the info, I will explore that site.

  2. I have a question. What explanation did the doctor give you for being on Flomax? Were you retaining urine? Flomax will worsens urinary leakage in most cases.

    1. He just did it as a precaution to prevent retaining urine and get a possible bladder infection.

    2. I agree with Pete here! Perhaps you should seek a second opinion. I was treating a gentleman here in Florida recently. He had been on Flomax prior to his prostate removal for cancer. He had his prostate removed, nobody checked his medication list and this guy kept taking Flomax and we couldn't get him dry with PT. Once his Primary MD caught the medication error, the man improved with continence.

  3. My Urologist is so good answering questions and explaining things. If yours isn't, maybe it's possible to be referred to another Urologist by your Oncologist or Primary Care Physician?
Don't give up, and keep looking for a solution.

    1. Thanks for writing this! We need to seek medical care from those who are good at explaining what is happening in our bodies!
