Tips for Managing Symptoms

My father has reoccurring prostate cancer. His PSA numbers are now high enough that he has to restart treatment, and he's getting Xtandi and Lupron. The docs have given no assistance in how to manage side effects. Do you have any suggestions? I have heart failure myself, and I know the best ideas for symptom management can come from other patients. The cancer has not spread to bones at this point. His last time with HT was really, really, hard for him, so we are all very scared. Any ideas on symptom management? Help!!!

  1. I just started back with xtandi and Lupron. The side effects are what I experienced the first two years. For hot flashes I used a chillow (Amazon), neck fan (Amazon) silk pillow cases, and a gel cap that stayed in freezer. Fatigue was battled with short bouts of exercise . Weight gain battled with plant based diet. Never found a solution for brain fog which was/ is very frustrating. Other side effects were kept a bay by cardiologist ( diabetes & cardiac/stroke risks). I have a fantastic team at Duke Cancer Center. A solid family and friends support circle continues to keep me positive and active. Good luck.
