Zytiga and Lupron, how long?

I have had my prostate removed via robotic surgery, and was told I was a cancer survivor, then when the Lupron wore off my PSA increased quickly. Then sent to 40 sessions of radiation in pelvic bed, a spot on my spine and hip. I continue to take the Lupron shot and the generic Zytiga.
I am getting conflicting information on how long to stay on the Zytiga.
One oncologist says a total of one year, while another says as long as I can tolerate it. PSA <0.01 and testosterone a 2. I have read the literature that sorta indicates stay on it as long as possible.
I have to decide which doctor to listen to. Anyone been there done this? I would appreciate your thoughts

  1. It sounds like you may need a third opinion. Probably a good idea to ask why the answers differ when speaking to your doctor. Doctors should be able to explain why they give the advice they do.

Years ago my wife found a lump in my testicle so I went to an urologist to have it checked out. His advice was to do a biopsy and "oh by the way just go ahead and remove the testicle." I didn't care to have the testicle removed on a "by the way" so went to a second urologist. He gave the same advice.

I still didn't like the advice so went to a third urologist. He said, "That's silly. You don't have cancer," took a sample of my prostate fluid and sent me on my way.

So now over 30 years later I still have the testicle and I do not have testicular cancer.

This has made me a big proponent of collecting as many differing opinions as possible.

    1. My main oncologist is a general oncologist with Advent Health in Orlando, my second opinion doc is a prostate oncologist from Moffitt in Tampa. For the central Florida area, is there a prostate oncologist that someone thinks is the best? Mayo? UF? Cleveland clinic? Looking for a third opinion. MD Anderson?

      1. If you are in florida, I spoke with a doc and his partner and found them both pretty damn competent during my phone/zoom appointments. Dattoli.
And in general I don’t think very highly of the general competence level of these ppl.
