Is surgical castration an alternative to XTANDI?

Just found out Xtandi will cost $19,000 per month. Even with my Blue Cross Blue Shield primary and Medicare my out of pocket co-pay would be $3,500 per month. Apparently, I make too much salary to qualify for pay assistance.

Edwuardo, that’s definitely a question to ask your urologist. I’m assuming that surgical castration is probably an alternative to Xtandi, but remember castration is irreversible. Also, I was at a prostate cancer conference last year, and there was a presentation on Erleada. The doctor said Erleada is a newer, more advanced drug that works the same as Xtandi. I have a feeling it’s price is similar to Xtandi, but it would be worth checking to see if Erleada is less expensive. All the best.

Hi Edwuardo. Sorry you are facing this situation. It does appear that the manufacturer of Xtandi has a copayment assistance program. You can learn mor here: https://www.xtandi.com/financial-support?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=xtandi%20copay%20assistance&utm_campaign=gs-branded&utm_content=gs-xtandi%20copay%20card_ex&gclid=CjwKCAjwq-TmBRBdEiwAaO1en5EIf9sqzj0XA5Xz-wb17EHmrIcXu8nYuljzK-rbF9PJSh9hG1uo4hoCcywQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds. In addition, you may want to speak to your doctor or the social services person at the hospital you are treated through. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Richard (ProstateCancer.net Team)
