Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

I haven't checked in awhile with my support group. I'm doing well. It's been over six months since my Robotic Prostatectomy Surgery. I had everything removed and none nerve saving. Just had another PSA which is still undetectable at 0.1. My Doctor gave me cialas but I still don't understand why due to me not having any nerves for them to affect. I haven't had an erection since surgery. The incontinence has stop but maybe a dribble if I move to fast. So, I'm thankful for that. I oredered me a pump and it does extend my penis on hard and a ring. But as soon as I remove it from the pump it goes limp. There is no more intimacy in my relationship. I've been married for 5 years and it's very disappointing that I have to please my wife in other way except in the way I would prefer. I thank God every day that I had a successful surgery. I'm grateful to be able to extend my life by having the surgery. Just want your all to know I am very grateful that you all was here for me. Thanks Ray

  1. Hi thank you for the update. I am so glad to hear you are doing well. I know it must be an adjustment in your marriage and I can understand why you would be disappointed. Through everything you have been through, I am happy to hear you are grateful and have a positive mindset. We are here for you. Jill, prostatecancer.net team

    1. Did you say 0.1 or 0.01? If 0.1, I’d look into that. Im no expert, but i think 0.1 is not low for post RP?
Sorry to hear about the ED.
My performance has become spotty and I don’t even go after it anymore. Also for me the cost of sex seems just too damn high. Always some hidden price to pay that crops up later. Life is simpler and cleaner for me without it.
I understand your situation is a little different. Your girl sounds like she wants it which is quadruple hard on you right now. But remember, if you want a female, there are plenty that will be happy to hang out, cook, travel, play, and not have sex.

      1. Yes, the magic number is <0.1, that 0.1 which is undetachable after prostate surgery. Thanks,

        1. NO... it is <0.01 that is undetectable. I was undetectable after RP but 0.04 after a year. My radiologist said 0.2 was generally considered a reoccurrence but did not believe in waiting that long, especially in my case where the pathology found some cancer at the surgical margins. He followed the rule that 2 consecutive rises in PSA was a reoccurrence so I retested in 6 weeks and it was 0.05 so I started the radiation. 6 months after I was back to <0.01 and hope it stays that way.

With respect to ED, I have been through all of that. I have seen posts from men who say that the pills did work even though they had the nerves removed but I also did not think that was possible. I had the nerves spared but the erections did not return. Pump did not work for sex because I needed so much tension that it would go numb quickly. But I am a true believer in daily pumping for Penis health. I used injections for a year, but then they stopped working for me. Have seen many comments from men that are very happy with the results of the injections. I moved on to the inflatable implant and it is a life changer. Like so many I wish I would have done it sooner.

I saw a comment on this site that said you can Private Message people here but I have not been able to find it. If anyone wants to discuss my experience with injections or implant I would be glad to talk. I can be PM'd on Franktalk.org as mikedsy
